The Memorabilia of CCSD

         1991  The preliminary research and pre-site selection research of CCSD were completed, supported by the Ministry of Geology and Mineral Resources of China.

         1994  The research work of development plan for CCSD was finished, supported by the Geosciences Department of Chinese Academy of Sciences, which suggested that the Chinese Continental Scientific Drilling should be put into practice as soon as possible.

         1996  After the participation of International Continental Drilling Program (ICDP) was ratified by Chinese government in 1995, China became one of the three founding nations of ICDP.

         1997  The CCSD project was approved by the Expert Committee organized by the Ministry of Science and Technology and State Development Planning Commission of China.

         1997  The CCSD project was basically approved as a national key scientific engineering project to be carried out between 1995 and 2000 by Chinese government.

         1997  International Workshop on Pre-site Selection of Scientific Drilling in the Dabie-Sulu UHPM region was held in Qingdao. Over 60 scientists from home and abroad unanimously agreed that the Donghai site in the south Sulu UHPM belt was the best location for the first deep drillhole of the CCSD.

         1998  The CCSD Project was approved and supported financially by ICDP as one of the international continental scientific drilling projects.

         1998  The Scientific Advisory Committee of CCSD agreed with the selection of Maobei, Donghai County in Jiangsu Province as the 5000 m drillhole site.

         1999 State Development Planning Commission of China approved the proposal of CCSD project.

         2000  State Development Planning Commission of China agreed with the feasibility study report of CCSD project.

         2000  The Specialist Group organized by Ministry of Land and Resources of China agreed with the engineering design of CCSD project.
